Learn to identify the risks and stay safe

There is no escaping the fact that criminal organisations also try to recruit young people in Finland. Recruitment often takes place on social media or elsewhere on the internet. Young people also get approached in environments where they regularly spend time, such as sports clubs and shopping centres.

Organised crime groups see young people as easy targets.

Here are five examples of red flags:

  1. Someone offers you easy money. There is no such thing as easy money.
  2. Someone asks you for your personal information, such as your online banking details or account number. There is no legitimate reason for anyone else to have your bank details, so never share them.
  3. Someone asks you to collect a parcel for them. You cannot know what the parcel contains, so you should say no.
  4. Someone asks you to sell snus, for example, to your friends. That is called dealing and it is illegal.
  5. Someone asks you to go into business with them. Find out as much as you can about the business and what your role would be before signing anything.
